Definition

  • PRESTO is an electronic, reloadable fare card that makes commuting convenient.

Other important info

  • Can be acquired or loaded from any GO station attendant or online at prestocard.ca
  • Tap your PRESTO card on a payment device machine before boarding a train, or as you board a bus
  • Tap your PRESTO card as you exit a bus or train platform. Train passengers can skip this step by setting a default trip.
  • With the Autoload feature, money will automatically load onto your PRESTO card when the balance drops below a dollar amount chosen by you.

Definition

  • One-way ride between two specified fare zones

VIA Interline Ticket

VIA Rail Canada operates the national passenger rail service on behalf of the Government of Canada. VIA operates up to 503 trains weekly on 12,500 kilometres of track, and serves 450 communities across the country, from coast to coast and north to Hudson Bay. VIA transports over 4 million passengers annually.

To make extended travel easier, VIA Rail passengers can purchase one ticket for most connecting VIA and GO Train trips. VIA passengers beginning or continuing their journey along any GO Train corridor and connecting through Toronto can purchase a combination VIA/GO paper ticket at selected VIA stations or an e-ticket on the VIA Rail website or by calling 1 888 VIA-RAIL (1 888 842-7245).

  • Senior single-ride fare is half the adult single-ride fare. There are no further discounts for day pass.

  • 6-12 years of age
  • Child single-ride fare is half the adult single-ride fare. There are no further discounts for day pass.
  • Children under the age of 1 always ride free
  • One child between the ages of 1 and 5 may ride free with an accompanying adult. Any additional children traveling with the same adult must pay the child fare.

  • Elementary, junior high, and secondary students must show a valid Canadian school-issued ID when traveling and do not require GO Student ID
  • Students must always travel with their school-issued ID card to show for ticket checks
  • Cards for the 2012-13 school year expire on October 31, 2013

Ticket Types Available

Definition

  • Full-time Canadian university and college (excluding online courses/institutions) students are eligible for GO Transit student fares, but they must carry official GO Student ID when travelling to show for ticket checks
  • ID cards can be obtained during the school's registration period (either online or using a paper application form obtained from the school Registrar's office). For a list of schools taking online requests for GO Student IDs, please visit our Student ID page.
  • ID cards not obtained during registration are available through a paper application form at the school Registrar's office. The school must verify enrolment as a full-time student and the form must be validated at Union Station prior to its first use.
  • The GO Student ID card allows travel at a discounted rate for the period of full-time study and must be renewed each new school year. For students registered for 7 months or more of full-time classes, the 2011-12 cards expire on October 31, 2012 and 2012-13 cards are valid until October 31, 2013.

Definition

  • Maximum five people travelling together. At least one, but not more than two members of the group must be aged 18 or over. Members of the group do not have to be related.
  • Unlimited travel in one day between two specified fare zones
  • Customers travelling on GO group passes are not eligible for discounts on local transit to and from GO stations and terminals

  • Children group ticket - Valid on date of travel only

Definition

  • If arrangements are made with GO Transit at least 24 hours in advance, and assuming space is available, a group of 20 or more elementary school children (up to and including grade 8) may travel on a children group ticket. Arranging a children group ticket in advance avoids the inconvenience of purchasing an individual ticket for each child and adult in the group
  • Each child in the group will be charged the child fare (half the adult fare). All adults accompanying the group will pay the normal adult fare
  • Please call GO Transit to make arrangements for a children group ticket with one of our call centre staff. Once arranged, a children group ticket must be purchased on the day of travel, at least 15 minutes before the trip leaves

  • If 15 or more people are planning to travel on GO together, we recommend that you call GO Transit with at least 24 hours notice to make arrangements with one of our call centre staff
  • Single-rides or day passes are sold on the day of travel only, and groups must be at the station at least 30 minutes ahead of the scheduled departure time
  • Please note that we make every effort to accommodate large groups, but we cannot guarantee sufficient space

  • A passenger with a disability can travel with an attendant together on one fare
  • Once endorsed as a Support Person Ticket, the passenger must be accompanied by the attendant at all times when travelling
